For their early designs, bookshelf and stand-mounted speakers made of real hardwood (no MDF) were a hallmark of Sonus faber. The visual appeal of the speakers themselves received as much in terms of accolades as did the sound quality.

During those years, Sonus faber has worked hard to make a floor-standing speaker out of real wood but has been, up to now, unable to achieve the necessary build quality to do so without compromise.

In a few weeks, we will be releasing a review of the Maxima Amator Speakers that started in February. We will discuss how the design team finally realized their dream of building a solid hardwood tower. Hundreds of hours of listening were done, and measurements were taken.

How much sound quality can one get from a relatively small tower with a single seven-inch woofer and 28-millimeter dome tweeter? That’s what we set out to research for you, the results will be public before Labor Day.
