David's Classical Corner

Welcome to David’s Classical Corner, a little part of the website overseen by our Technical Editor David A, Rich. While David has forgotten more about the audio applications of analog circuit design than most of us could ever imagine, here he gets to share with you his other less technical audio passion, Classical music. David has a deep connection to classical music. His father, Edward Rich, was a well-respected RCA recording engineer who worked on several classical projects for RCA Red Seal and other parts of the company.

Over the years, through listening and studying, David has developed an almost encyclopedic knowledge of various composers, especially those of the early to mid-20th century tonal traditionalists. David has served for many years, as the Selection Committee lead for the Bethlehem Pennsylvania Chamber Music Society.

In this section, David is going to be less concerned with individual album reviews and instead focus on the composers themselves. There will be some deep diving into the history, development, and meaning behind their music, and some discussions on where the best examples of their works are to be found.

Please dive in and enjoy David’s Classical Corner. There is bound to be something you’ll want to stand up and play “Air Conductor” to!

Carl Nielsen is the only composer of the first rank that remains almost totally unknown. There are six symphonies at the center of Nielsen’s art although he wrote in all forms. Most critics and musicologists agree his orchestral music ranks with the great symphonists of the 20th century like Mahler, Shostakovich, Sibelius, and Vaughan Williams.
