The next stop on my journey through budget Ultra HD projectors is Epson’s Home Cinema 4010.

Epson Home Cinema 4010 Ultra HD Projector

With third-generation PRO-UHD pixel shift technology, full DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, HDR, and 3D, it looks to be a real winner in the under $2000 price category.

My initial unpacking of the 4010 reveals Epson’s distinct styling in a large white chassis with ample ventilation and a quiet fan. A trip through the menu system opens up a vast array of features with precise calibration controls, image enhancements, and even convergence and color uniformity adjustments.

A few preliminary measurements demonstrate reference-level color accuracy right out of the box. I won’t need much time to calibrate the 4010 as its color is on-point along with excellent grayscale and gamma tracking.

Since it accepts Ultra HD and HDR content up to 4096×2160 pixels at 60Hz, I’ll be stacking up a number of UHD Blu-ray titles to watch and compare with their 1080p counterparts. Each budget projector I get to review is better than the last and it’s a really exciting time to be involved with this new technology. I’m looking forward to enjoying some movies and you’ll be able to read my full review in a few weeks.
