The story picks up with Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) capturing the WBC World Heavyweight championship. He then proposes to his girlfriend, Bianca (Tessa Thompson) who accepts. This all puts him in a very happy place. Soon this will begin to unravel when Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), comes to America with his son to challenge Creed. Drago was the man who killed Creed’s father, Apollo Creed, in the ring. Now Adonis must face Drago’s son to defend his championship.

Creed II

I am a huge fan of the Rocky franchise. I also immensely enjoyed the first Creed film. It is against this backdrop that I sadly must report that this particular entry into the franchise fell flat in my analysis. The picture quality never lived up the current technical quality standards. It was flat and lifeless like most of the movie. Much of the story’s plot was very predictable and even cliché. There were so many ways to make a more enrapturing story but the movie chose to follow standard tropes and wasn’t very exciting to me. I think the movie may have been better with a stronger finish.

Creed II Review

This movie was upscaled to 2160p for the 4K release. The image started out so soft and blanched that I thought we were in store for some bright action later in the movie. But it didn’t really happen that way. The whole movie was a dark washed out mess. They screwed around with the lighting so terribly that even the scenes in the arenas were flat and washed out. The low light nature made the picture lose almost all pop its and color. The best scenes were the ring entrances and they were pretty dynamic and colorful. I also saw banding in the picture which really shouldn’t happen in this day and age.

The audio was first-rate in every possible way. It was kind of the star of the show. You have to select Dolby Atmos from the menu as it is not the default but please do this if you have a compatible system. It was immersive with some of the best bass I have heard in a while. I enjoyed the audio track very much.
