While we have covered a lot of Sonus faber speakers here at Secrets in the past few years, it hasn’t had a subwoofer available since the Cremona M from 2009.

Sonus faber Gravis III Subwoofer side view

With the recently released Gravis line, Sonus faber is back in the subwoofer business, hoping to combine their typical flair for design with beautiful sound and top-notch construction. Yongki Go recently covered the Gravis II model and I received the step-up Gravis III a few weeks ago. The Gravis III is currently the middle child in the Gravis lineup and the lowest-priced model to utilize Sonus faber’s new Gravis application for wireless control and configuration.

The Gravis III is a sealed box loading design with a single 10” long-throw woofer and rated extension down to 25Hz. Power is supplied via a 600W (900W peak) Class AB amplifier. The cabinet design is pure Sonus faber, i.e. simply beautiful. With its mix of leather and wood, this is the best-looking subwoofer I’ve ever laid eyes on. Is the Gravis III’s beauty only skin deep? Judging from my initial listening sessions I can say that the Gravis III is certainly more than just a pretty face, offering tuneful, accurate bass response down to its limit of extension. Look for my full review in the coming weeks as I test the Gravis III in stereo as well as multi-channel applications.
