New York, NY, November 8, 2018 – The DALI CALLISTO speaker system was just named by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) as an Honoree for the 2019 CES Innovations Awards. The award was presented as part of the Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase at CES Unveiled, a media preview event in New York City. This prestigious award is sponsored by the CTA, producer of the internationally-renowned Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow, which has recognized achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. The DALI CALLISTO speaker system received the honor for its unique implementation of high resolution wireless technology in audiophile-quality speakers.
Made in Denmark and built on 35 years of high-performance heritage, DALI’s CALLISTO system consists of the Sound Hub, the heart of the system, plus either a pair of 2C bookshelf speakers or 6C tower speakers. Using Qualcomm aptX™ HD, the Sound Hub wirelessly transmits 24-bit/96 kHz audio to the speakers, while the user controls the hub with their mobile device. The Sound Hub will automatically switch to whichever source is connected and can be hidden out of sight if so desired.
The DALI CALLISTO system also supports hi-res multi-room audio and music management with the addition of the optional BluOS module. Originally developed for Lenbrook International’s Bluesound brand of premium wireless multi-room players, BluOS is a now available in over 30 devices across four renowned audiophile hardware brands. Any BluOS Enabled device on the same Wi-Fi network, regardless of the brand, can then share, sync, or separately playback music libraries, playlists, and streaming music services like Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, and others.
The unique wireless capabilities of the system are not in isolation of DALI’s deep roots in audiophile-quality speaker design. True to the exacting standards of DALI’s other products, the CALLISTO line features high fidelity audio performance and elegant handcrafted finishes. The CALLISTO woofers benefit from patented Soft Magnetic Compound (SMC) to significantly reduce distortion from mechanical loss. The low-mass CALLISTO proprietary wood fiber cones are optimized to work in perfect balance with the built-in amplifier. This enables the woofer to be more linear than in a similar passive speaker system. Controlling volume on the system is elegantly done through the touch-sensitive panel on the tops of the speakers, the included Bluetooth remote, from the Sound Hub, or for users who have added the BluOS module, from the BluOS Controller app available for iOS or Android smart devices, or Mac OSX or Windows desktops.
“DALI is grateful that the vision we created for a state-of-the-art wireless audiophile speaker system has been recognized by CES,” commented Lars Worre, CEO of DALI Loudspeakers. “The US market, like others globally, is experiencing a shift in consumer behavior. We believe that matching high fidelity powered speakers with a versatile and modern wireless technologies like Qualcomm’s aptX HD and Lenbrook’s BluOS multi-room operating system is what the audiophiles of today and tomorrow are seeking.”
“It is a great distinction for DALI CALLISTO to be recognized by one of the most meaningful awards in the CE industry,” says Stephen Baker, Senior Director of Sales for Lenbrook Americas. “Since CALLISTO’s introduction, the market has responded enthusiastically to the concept of a high-performance speaker with wireless and streaming capabilities. The Innovations Award serves to reaffirm DALI’s vision for modern audiophiles.”
Whether listening to music from an online streaming service, a Hi-Res download or a CD/record player, DALI believes listeners should hear music as the artist intended. With a variety of inputs, from traditional wired connections to Qualcomm aptX HD and AAC – plus two future-proof expansion ports (e.g. BluOS) – CALLISTO is ready to connect the way you want it to.
The Innovations entries were judged on the following criteria:
- Engineering qualities, based on technical specs and materials used
- Aesthetic and design qualities
- The product’s intended use/function and user value
- Unique/novel features that consumers would find attractive
- How the design and innovation of the product compares to other products in the marketplace
- Products chosen as an Innovations honoree reflect innovative design and engineering of the entries. Examples may include the first time various technologies are combined in a single product or dramatic enhancements to previous product designs.
