Drum legend Steve Gadd, along with four-time Danish Grammy–winning saxophonist Michael Blicher and Hammond wizard Dan Hemmer, release their hard-swinging fourth album, It Will Be Alright, on September 1. The album is now available for pre-order through BandCamp on vinyl and CD, and will be available on all streaming services. To celebrate the release, the trio will tour the world in September and October.

The Blicher Hemmer Gadd Trio wrote this statement for fans:

Creating this album was an immense challenge. After we recorded the first tracks live, lockdown hit, and for almost three years it was impossible for us to get together to record. Instead, we met online to work on the music and plan how to finish the album. We ultimately decided that It Will Be Alright should include some songs that capture the excitement and energy of our live performances around Europe, as well as two special lockdown songs recorded in Michael’s intimate garden studio in Copenhagen just after the world began to reopen. We poured our hearts and souls into this music, and hope that you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it. Thank you for listening.

The Blicher Hemmer Gadd Trio was formed after a chance encounter more than 10 years ago, and remains united by its members’ shared joy in and love of performing bluesy, soulful music in the most intimate and acoustic settings. The trio has flourished despite the 3,000+ miles, 40+ years, and three busy touring schedules that often separate them.

After decades of performing in stadiums with the likes of Eric Clapton, James Taylor, and Steely Dan, Gadd relishes the opportunity to rediscover the sound and feel of playing almost acoustically. “This is honest music,” he says. “No one plays like this anymore.”

In addition, the “live” element is so integral to the band’s music that most of the new album’s tracks were recorded on tour, in front of an audience. Saxophonist Michael Blicher’s lyrical compositions bring out the soul of the group, providing the perfect foundation for the dazzling interplay and heartfelt improvisations that follow. The sounds of Gadd’s vibrating drum skins, the bamboo of Blicher’s saxophone reeds, and the tone wheels of Hemmer’s 50-year-old Hammond organ combine in a collection of songs as respectful of the past as they are fresh for 21st-century ears.
