When Hiccup discovers Toothless isn’t the only Night Fury, he must seek “The Hidden World”, a secret Dragon Utopia before a hired tyrant named Grimmel finds it first. The third installment in the series is just as delightful as the earlier films, but this time the animation is even more stunning!

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Blu-Ray Review

Commentary

I enjoyed the first two films and was a bit reluctant to go for the third. I mean, it’s bound to start sucking dragon fire by now, like the middle Star Wars movies with Jar-Jar Binks…but I was pleasantly surprised! The animation is even more lush and has scenes where hundreds of things are going on all at once. The colors and lush landscapes are real eye-candy treats. The story is well conceived and has a dastardly villain, but perhaps best of all, the movie has a satisfying conclusion that ties everything up nice and tidy by the end. It has some finality to it…so don’t expect another Dragon 4 after this one…but then again, Star Wars will never really end, will it?

Technical

Beautiful picture quality with lots of detail, contrast and glorious colors. There is one scene in the “hidden world” that reminded me of the covers on some of the Yes albums. Super colorful and neon like. Sound was equally marvelous with dragons flying over and around you. Adults and kids alike will enjoy this flick. Recommended!
