VIZIO SB46514-F6 5.1.4-Channel Sound Bar Preview

See the complete review for the VIZIO SB46514-F6 5.1.4-Channel Sound Bar.

Hot on the heels of VIZIO SB36512-F6 Sound Bar that I recently reviewed comes their flagship Atmos-capable sound bar system – the SB46514-F6.

Significantly larger than the SB36512, the SB46514 starts off with a 46” sound bar with much higher quality drivers for its three main and two front Atmos channels. Plus, the dedicated surround speakers each sport an up-firing driver in addition to their front-facing driver, making the SB46514 a true 5.1.4 system. Speaking of the .1 channel, there is a newly designed 10-inch wireless sub included in the package as well. The SB46514-F6 system sports a full set of input connections as well as support for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet connectivity. As is the norm, Google Chromecast and VIZIO’s SmartCast are supported for streaming and casting.

Initial Impressions

The VIZIO SB46514-F6 is more than just a slightly larger soundbar, subwoofer, and two additional height speakers. They’ve taken a much more “audiophile” route for the main front channels by using multiple independent drivers combined with additional passive radiators (left/right channels) and porting (center channel). Combined with the more potent subwoofer and additional rear height speakers, the SB46514 is a big step up in performance over VIZIO’s other models.

Stay tuned for the full review of the SB46514-F6 Sound Bar System to see why I think it may just be the best value in VIZIO’s audio lineup.

Tyler’s interest in music started at a young age. He began instruction in classical guitar at the age of 7 and gradually progressed towards rock in his early teens. He expanded his musical horizons in college, earning extra cash as a DJ spinning house and trance music and learning the basics of sound reinforcement. Starting with a humble 27” Sony Trinitron CRT television, a Pioneer DVD player, and just two channels of sound, his home theater system has continued to evolve over the years in an effort to recreate the sense of energy and emotional excitement that comes from attending a live performance. Tyler holds a B.S. in Business Information Systems from Lehigh University and an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts. After spending almost 20 years working in healthcare IT, he made the switch to the “for profit” world and now delivers IT business solutions in the pharmaceutical sector.
