A substantial and well thought out soundbase that ticks all the right boxes and promises great sound from a rather unobtrusive package.

The Fluance AB40 is a Stereo, 6-Driver TV Soundbase powered by a 90 Watt Class D Amplifier. The inputs include a Digital Toslink Optical and a 3.5mm Stereo AUX. HDMI connectivity is not included but the AB40 offers a ‘3D’ setting to enhance your movie watching experience.

There are Dual 1-inch silk soft dome Ferro Fluid cooled tweeters flanked by Four 3-inch Aluminum Cone woofers. Frequency response is said to be 30Hz – 20KHz and I’ve happily been testing this claim. The Fluance also features Bluetooth aptX codec expanding its usefulness.

The unit measures 3.9 x 26 x 14 inches and weighs a sturdy 24 lbs. It’s somehow designed to accommodate a television that weighs 150lbs (if you can find one that heavy). Soundbases, (this one in particular) are designed to support a TV with a centralized stand. Potential buyers should bear this in mind as many new TV’s are styled with legs on the sides. My own TV is mounted on the wall so I didn’t encounter any problems in this regard.
