The new 700 Series speakers from Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) were debuted in September 2017 to supersede their long-running CM series.

This series is placed below the 800 Series Diamond range in the B&W home audio speakers lineup, but incorporates some of the 800 Series technologies, such as the Continuum Cone midrange and Aerofoil profile bass drivers. Additionally, B&W also implements new technologies in the 700 Series speakers including a Carbon Dome tweeter and solid body tweeter housing.

For this review B&W sent us 5.1 speaker configuration which includes; 702 S2 floorstanding, 705 S2 bookshelf speakers, an HTM71 center channel, and a DB4S subwoofer, all in rosenut finish. These speakers have a solid built quality and look elegant and gorgeous. Although good quality and looks alone do not make a good speaker, my initial listening impression on these speakers is very positive, suggesting that these speakers can indeed produce beautiful sound. The upcoming review will describe in more details the features and performance of these speakers.

Yongki Go, Ph.D.

Yongki considers himself as an aerospace engineer by day and an audio/home-theater enthusiast by night/weekend. He earned his doctoral degree in aerospace engineering from MIT in 1999 and has pursued a career in academia before changing path to join the aerospace industry. He has been writing for SECRETS since its early years, but was on hiatus during the few years when he was living overseas. He has been actively writing for SECRETS again not long after his return to the US in 2012. Although his field of expertise is in aerospace control systems as exemplified by more than 80 technical articles in various aerospace-related journals and conferences, his passion has always been in hi-fi audio reproduction.
