DALI Opticon 6 MkII Home Theater System

Introduction

After my trip to NYC for Dali’s launch tour of their new Epikore series of speakers, I was, of course, curious to hear more from the brand. To this point, I had only listened to their upper-tier range of speakers. But I was more curious about the ones lower down on the food chain. Specifically, the Opticon MkII Series, as this range implemented their Hybrid tweeter system.

The Hybrid tweeter consists of a 29 mm soft dome tweeter paired with a custom 17 x 45 mm planar element. Both drivers are mounted on a cast aluminum faceplate. It’s kind of a best-of-both-worlds scenario. You get the clarity, speed, and dynamics of a dome tweeter, and the very high-frequency detail and finesse of a planar tweeter.

So, I asked, and Dali happily obliged.

They sent in a pair of Opticon 6 MkII towers, which the company calls a “2 1/2 + 1⁄2-way” speaker, an Opticon Vokal MkII center-channel speaker, and a pair of Opticon LCRs. All of this is backed up by their Sub 12 F taking care of the low-end duties.
