Guess what? This is going to be the least scientific home theater review you’ve ever seen. And not because the products are bad. On the contrary, they’re amazing.

Aperion Audio Novus Home Theater

I simply didn’t do my part. I didn’t set them up properly and I didn’t test them the way I should have. And I’m never going to.

This is the Aperion Novus Home Theater package. And it is everything that I needed.

Introduction

I’ve complained at length about the built-in fireplace shelf system in our family room. It’s the worst.

A brief run down, The build-in was here when we bought the house. The people who built it seemingly wired up the room for 7-channel sound and then built the unit around it and made no easy provision for updating or changing it after the fact. Also, the internet for our home comes through the cable outlet behind the fireplace. The only access is a small cutout that a small child would struggle to get into. It might be good for hiding your stash, but that’s about it. Top it off with the fact that the shelves themselves are too shallow to fit most speakers comfortably. The built-in has space for a TV, but the largest we could comfortably fit in there was 50″ with enough space for electronics below.

Needless to say, it’s been a struggle finding speakers that would fit in and on the shelves.

I spent countless hours searching for speakers that were shallow enough in-depth but still provided good enough sound to fill the room. My keywords were shallow-depth speakers in white. I had a few hits, but there weren’t many that fit the bill.

The built-in would need to accommodate a receiver too. That search prompted my ‘Where the heck are the small AV receivers’ video. And my search netted out with the Sony STR 790. It’s… ok. The room is big, about 25′ long and 13′ wide, and is open on the left side. The seating position is about 20′ back from the TV. So, the speakers that would end up in this room would need to be capable of filling it with sound. They also need to be efficient as the receiver powering them is low-powered. And all of this needs to be relatively inexpensive. Behind the couch sits a sub, connected with the SVS Soundpath wireless receiver.

Then Aperion Audio reached out for a review. they mentioned their Novus line as a starting point. And I was floored. Their products never showed up in my search. And, truth be told, I had never heard of them. But these were, on paper at least. Exactly what I was looking for.
