Fresh off from reviewing Yamaha’s new R-S202 Stereo Receiver, I was given the opportunity to check out their latest universal BD player that has a couple of unique features. The most notable one is CD mode which actually spins the disc at a lower RPM so that fewer reading errors are introduced. It also turns off the video section of the player for a purer path to musical nirvana. A pair of balanced outputs offer the highest-quality connection to the processor or amplifier of your choice, too. This player is built to please audiophiles!
My full review of the BD-A1060 will come out shortly, and it looks to have few surprises in store. Having only one HDMI output proved a bit of a hindrance, but discovering that it can also play DVD-A (not listed) was a pleasant surprise. I will be making some direct comparisons to the current “King of the Hill” in this price range, the Oppo BDP-103.

Who is going to purchase a new player that doesn't play UHD content?..
This Yamaha does play UHD content but to what standard we must wait and find out
This is not a 4k player, thus the comparison to the Oppo 103 (which also
up scales, but does not play native 4k). Not being an UHD Blu-ray player
was my chief complaint with it, but it up scales so well that you might be fine with it if you have a large BD library. BDs look outstanding on the A-1060!
Hi Jim. The Oppo 203 release is imminent. I'm in no rush. I'm keen to see the next versions of Pioneer BDP LX88 and Marantz UD7007. Patience may be a virtue here let's see. And HDR tellies and projectors will come down in price to as they run towards 8K and leave the software and broadcast fields behind them!
Sorry, John, you need to check again. Upscaling 1080p to 4K is not the same as being able to play UHD disks. The Yamaha is NOT a UHD player.
