Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ Preview

Cambridge has gone and updated their wonderful Melomania 1 True Wireless Headphones.

Enter the Melomania 1+. There wasn’t a heck of a lot to improve over their last outing. But not one to rest on their laurels, Cambridge has made a fairly significant overhaul of the Melomania 1.

They have added app control, customizable EQ settings, and a High-Performance Audio Mode. The earbuds now include fast USB-C charging (yes 2021!) and come supplied with a greater selection of memory foam tips (both medium and large size) for greater comfort, excellent noise isolation, and secure fit. So hopefully I will be able to get these to better fit my tiny ears.

The Melomania 1+ has 9 hours of battery life on a single earbud charge so if you’re running two marathons a day you’re covered. The tiny charging case offers four times that. That’s an incredible 45 hours of total playtime, up from the previous 36 Hours. Heavy users will no doubt appreciate the increased battery life. If David Goggins needs earbuds for a morning marathon, he should pick up a pair of these. After two-plus years, my Melomania 1 still has ridiculous battery life. I don’t run mind you; I prefer a leisurely stroll. I charge my buds once a week and they’re always ready to go.

The new app is the main curiosity for me. It’s free and available for iOS and Android, It allows you to unlock new features, check on the battery life of individual earbuds, find lost earbuds (!!!!!), customize the EQ, and customize the sound to your preference. I like having this ability and am excited to give it a go.

Like the previous generation, The Melomania 1+ earbuds feature 5.8mm, graphene-enhanced drivers. The aforementioned High-Performance Audio Mode uses the same hi-fi grade amplification found in Cambridge Audio’s CX range of components giving the default sound mode lower noise levels, higher dynamic range, and a wider soundstage. Bluetooth 5.0 is onboard and supports AAC and aptX codecs
The Melomania 1+ has ditched the stone finish and is now available in black and white. I’m excited to get mine unboxed and into my ears.

I’ll let you know how they sound in a few.
