The Basics:
The team at Michell has been selling analog music systems since 1973. From their flagship Orbe to their Gyro, Gyrodec, Revolv, and Tecnodec turntables, Michell’s design language definitely stands out. Their classic model, the Gyrodec, features a belt-driven platter spun on an inverted bearing attached to a sub-platter with attractive solid brass weights on the bottom to add mass and momentum.
The turntable I have in for review, the Gyro SE, is a small footprint version of the Gyrodec. It’s essentially the same motor, sub-platter, platter, and cartridge pod, but without the built-in platform.
The Rundown:
The Gyro SE is priced in the middle of Michell’s turntable line. Michell’s full line of turntables follows a no-nonsense, almost industrial design language. They nearly resemble medical equipment, yet they remain somehow elegant. This is my first time with a Michell turntable, so I am eager to experience it.
