Technics has designed an all-in-one music system in the SC-CX700.

Technics SC-CX700 Wireless Monitor Speaker Angle View

A pair of monitor speakers that are wireless, self-powered, and with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, they enable you to stream from any music source.

Technics may be more known for their line of amplifiers and turntables, but they recently introduced the new SC-CX700 speaker system, which refers to a powered speaker that can serve as a hub for an audio system. Featuring wireless technology, it also allows multiple analog inputs, including a turntable (the speakers have a built-in phono stage), and digital inputs include HDMI ARC to connect to your video source. Technics recognizes that people want it all but in a compact system. The SC-CX700 is Roon-ready and can access Qobuz, TIDAL, Google Cast and AirPlay, Spotify, and any internet radio.

Technics SC-CX700 Wireless Monitor Speaker Top Control Buttons View

The SC-CX700 monitor speaker is covered in felt, unlike typical speakers with veneers. The next thing to notice, as you run your fingers over the top mounted controls on the primary speakers are the inputs available, several tactile buttons for power on/off, mute and volume control. The SC-CX700 is a 100-watt, two-way bass-reflex coaxial design with the tweeter in line with the woofer which Technics refers to as a Phase Precision Driver 4.

Using a proprietary app on either an iOS or Android device, you can control the speaker system and your music playback. Try using the app and built-in microphone on the speaker to make room placement adjustments; shelf, or speaker stand, wall locations, etc. Test tones are sent, and the app will keep the settings. If you are into tone controls, it’s got that for you too.

The supplied remote will do most of everything the app does (pairing, volume control, pause, rewind, fast forward, and input selection), other than selecting and playing your streaming services.

The price is not for the faint of heart at $2,999.99, but considering what you get, it may be commensurate with the cost.

Technics’ reputation over the years, starting from the 1960s, should give them some credibility with the SC-CX700 music system. They are beautiful to the touch and can work well with any decor, are well-made and especially well thought out. SECRETS has reviewed turntables and amplifiers from this formidable Japanese company, including the Technics SU-R1000 Integrated Amplifier, Technics SU-GX70 Network Audio Amplifier, and the Technics EAH-AZ80 True Wireless Earbuds. This speaker is qualitatively well in line with their other products. My full review will be coming to the SECRETS website soon.
