Youngstown, OH – August 12, 2025 – In a fusion of cinematic artistry and cutting-edge audio engineering, SVS was invited by a team of award-winning Brazilian filmmakers to showcase the real-world power and precision of its flagship SB17-Ultra R|Evolution subwoofers in a state-of-the-art studio theater.

Captured in a three-part series, the Abdala Brothers collaboration documents how the brothers sought out a subwoofer solution that delivered not just raw output, but musicality, accuracy, seamless integration, and the deepest possible extension in their studio’s reference theater. What began as a test quickly evolved into a quest to push the limits of low frequency playback with results that far exceeded expectations and SVS’s own published specifications.

Bass Beyond the Specs: Engineering Meets Emotion

Their unique theater, originally built with uneven concrete walls for aesthetic reasons, presented serious acoustic challenges. However, with the help of Nemesis Acoustics, the room was retrofitted with proprietary audiodynamic passive transducer wall panels. This new technology utilizes damped sympathetic resonance to mitigate standing waves and room modes. Despite the SB17-Ultra R|Evolution subwoofer’s low frequency extension rating to 15Hz, the filmmakers documented in-room response extending below 5Hz, thanks in part to precise positioning, room tuning, and the innovative acoustic treatments.

Once the dual SB17-Ultra R|Evolution subwoofers were installed, they meticulously calibrated the system using a combination of the SVS subwoofer control app’s parametric EQ, Dirac Live, and the Harman Curve, with real-world measurements taken before and after via REW. The result: a smooth, extended, and visceral bass response that left the team stunned—outperforming far more expensive solutions in both impact and bass uniformity across seating positions.

Part 3 – Cost-Performance Champion

Rather than claiming the SB17-Ultra R|Evolution as “the best subwoofer in the world,” the video illustrates how two of them, when combined with proper acoustic design and calibration, can surpass subwoofers costing four times as much—both in subjective experience and objective measurement.

“Our goal wasn’t to chase status symbols or brand names,” said Salomão Abdala, one of the creators. “We wanted real-world, breathtaking performance. With two SB17-Ultra R|Evolution subwoofers and the right physics, we beat subs that cost double or more—and we did it with better uniformity and extension. This was more than a review; it was a discovery.”
