AXPONA 2019

MartinLogan

MartinLogan Renaissance ESL 15A (Room 1404)

MartinLogan is demoing their Renaissance ESL 15A electrostatic speakers at AXPONA 2019. Renaissance, the winner of Stereophile’s 2019 Recommended Component: Class A award, is located in a large suite and paired with Luxman electronics and Cardas cables. The company reports that with the help of the speaker’s Anthem Room Correction (ARC) equipped powered woofer system, the bass response within the room is perfectly balanced, with power and detail. The sound staging capability of large electrostatic panels such as this is always a treat to the ears, and the demos offered at AXPONA 2019 deliver the goods in spades.

MartinLogan Expression ESL 13A (Room 404)

Paired with Constellation Audio and Auralic electronics and Cardas cables, MartinLogan’s Expression ESL 13A 2-channel demo is situated in a small, intimate space. Even in this small room, the soundstage presented is shockingly expansive and detailed. Much like the Renaissance ESL 15A located 10-floors above (in a more spacious suite), the Expression is using Anthem Room Correction (ARC) to tailor the performance of the speaker’s powered woofer section to the room. In the case of the Expression, the bass is taught and dynamic without being overpowering—a difficult thing to accomplish in a listening room of this size.

MartinLogan Impression ESL 11A (Room 670)

The Benchmark Media Systems demo room is showcasing MartinLogan’s Impression ESL 11A electrostatic loudspeakers paired with Benchmark’s DAC3 B D-to-A converter and AHB2 amplifiers used in a monoblock configuration. This impressive system sounds remarkably clean, and three dimensional with high-resolution demo tracks streaming from Aurender’s A10 music server. The Impression ESL 11A speakers are using their powered woofers tuned to the small demo space with the help of built-in Anthem Room Correction (ARC). When considering all three of the demos that MartinLogan is offering at AXPONA 2019, the effectiveness of room correction for matching bass performance to the listening space is, without question, undeniable.

Paradigm / Anthem

Paradigm Persona 3F, Persona SUB, and Anthem STR Integrated Amplifier (Room 374)

Perhaps one of the most exciting demonstrations at AXPONA 2019, between Paradigm’s Persona Series and Anthem’s STR Series, the product lines sampled in this room have garnered a dozen product of the year awards—and for good reasons. The Persona speaker’s beryllium mid-range and tweeter offer up audio magic with their ability to render a soundstage with extraordinary nuance. The sturdy Persona SUB, with six 8-inch woofers and 3400 Watts (peak) of power on tap, provides plenty of punch at remarkably low-frequencies down to 12Hz. Anthem’s STR Integrated Amplifier, being used with music streaming from an Aurender A100 music server, does a remarkable job (with its built-in Anthem Room Correction system) at integrating the speakers and subwoofer within the challenging hotel room while managing to deliver a demonstration with tons of dynamic energy and rich detail.
