Commentary

I found the first movie to be tolerable, but then again, 15 years ago, the fashion industry was superficial and silly. Stiller cleverly mocked it and the shallowness of the “It” crowd. Z2 was more of the same, except without the cleverness. It just retreads on the original movie with the same fashion jokes and a murder plot that really doesn’t go anywhere.

Secrets Sponsor

To fill up the run-time of the movies, a dozen cameos are added, but other than a fleeting moment with Benedict Cumberbatch, I found them all to be dull and their presence added nothing to the movie. Even my wife turned to me after an hour and said, “This is really boring.” Derek, your movie is out of style.

Technical

Fear not, fashion friends…the disc looks really good with lots of vibrant colors and hilarious looking costumes. Details are razor sharp and the contrast is excellent. Shadows are inky black without crushing. Sound is clear and loud with the subwoofer staying on throughout the movie. Surround sound is generous and keeps you in the middle of things.

Extras

These include: The Zoolander Legacy, Go Big or Go Rome, Drake Sather: The man who created Zoolander and Youth Milk (commercial). A DVD and Digital Copy are included. You also get access to a digital copy of the original Zoolander with this combo pack!

Jim Milton

Jim Milton has been interested in high fidelity since his college years in the late 70's. It was there that he first became interested in classical music. He has been part of choral music, both in opera and oratorio and is an avid collector of classical music from the Baroque through the Romantic periods. He enjoys an occasional night at Boston Symphony Hall or attending an organ concert at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, ME. Currently he is the director of Nuclear Medicine at the North Shore Medical Center, located just outside of Boston. He also serves as an adjunct professor for Salem State University where he teaches a course in nuclear instrumentation. During his leisure time, he enjoys listening to his music collection and an occasional movie with his wife of 30+ years. Living on the longest stretch of sandy beach north of Boston offers him plenty of opportunities to take a relaxing stroll or soak up some sun. "Remember, acquiring good A/V gear takes lots of time...but doesn't necessarily take lots of money."
