Trespass Against Us – Blu Ray Movie Review

Brendan Gleeson plays Coby Cutler who is the head of a band of modern-day Irish travellers that operate outside the law. His son, Chad (played by Michael Fassbender) makes hay primarily as the getaway driver on their various and frequent criminal activities. Chad longs for a fresh start and tries throughout the story to find a pathway from the traveller camp into a more mainstream existince. He hopes to make a better life for his kids and himself.

I would recommend renting this movie before you make the decision to buy it. It isn’t for everybody. The acting is first rate and the story will keep your interest intact but I didn’t feel as though I bonded with any of the characters. And this included the lead part. I am not sure if I will re-watch the movie for its dramatic impact any time soon.

I can say that I will pull it out to demo certain car chase scenes for my friends. So check it out on a rental basis and if you like it then run out and grab a copy of the Blu-ray.

On its surface, the video appeared to be muted and washed out. It would be easy to dismiss this as some sort of technical failing but it was not. The disc indeed passed the director’s intended visual style. So you have a somewhat hazy image on indoor scenes and scenes shot at dusk. Outdoor scenes shot in daylight, on the other hand, were crisply detailed with excellent contrast.

As an American, I sometimes have trouble following dialog spoken by Irish actors particularly if they talk too fast. It is a combination not only of their accents but more so due to the different turns of phrase and sentence construct than what you hear in American English. It is for this reason that I bumped up the volume of the center channel: to understand the dialog better. But this also isn’t an indictment of the technical qualities of the production. One example of this would be the car chase scenes which score really high up on the audio reproduction scale registering qualities that are equally as good as any other reference material that I own.

This is a single disc package with a Blu-ray disc and an Ultravioet download code included. There are two on-dsic special features – Blood Bonds: On the Set of Trespass Against Us and Heartfelt: Director Adam Smith on the Chemical Brothers. These short featurettes/interviews are entertaining and are definitely worth a watch once you have enjoyed the main feature.
