Robert de Niro plays Ben Whittaker, a 70-year old widower who has become dissatisfied with his retirement lifestyle. Fortunately for him, he comes across a flyer advertising for a tech start up firm which is interested in hiring senior citizens interns. He winds up getting a position with the company, "About the Fit" which was founded by a young entrepreneur, Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway). Ben is assigned to work directly for Jules who turns out to be a tireless and hands-on manager. Ben soon finds that Jules is very much in need of his kind guidance.

I am very pleased to have gotten the opportunity to review such a fine and engaging movie as "The Intern". This movie reminded me of one of my favorite Mark Twain quotes – "I like a good story well told." In my view, this sentiment is at the crux of successful movie making. So in that respect "The Intern" has a great story line with characters you can relate to. I wound up caring for the characters and the related outcomes of the various plot points. Add that the acting and production qualities are first rate and you have yourself a real winner. I recommend this movie as fun and light fare when you are ready for a feel-good experience.

Like most modern movies, this one was filmed and mastred in digital. True to the rom com style, the picture is bright and colorful. This goes not only for the outdoor scenes but also for much of the indoor scenes as well. So it didn’t test the black levels of my display exactly, but I also did not detect any weaknesses in the images I saw.

This Blu-ray was servicable on the audio side with clear dialog and engaging musicality with the delightful soundtrack. The audio was natural sounding enough that there were a few times where I though my phone was ringing when it was just the movie. All in all the quality of the technical presentation was more than adequate.
The movie comes with a Blu-ray, a DVD and a Digital HD Download code. The remaining extras are sparse – "Learning from Experience" (cast interviews), "Designs on Life" (discusses set designs and other visual elements) and "The Three Interns" (cast interviews discussing working with de Niro). All extras are in HD.
