Everybody Wants Some – Blu-ray Movie Review

Synopsis

This movie follows a freshman pitcher named Jake as he arrives on a college campus in the summer of 1980 and meets his new rowdy teammates. Together, they must navigate their way between girls, parties and baseball. All of this takes place during the last weekend before school starts. If you liked Dazed and Confused, you will enjoy this continuation of a look at growing up through the eyes of nostalgia.

Commentary

I was expecting this movie to be, well, Animal House. However, Linklater doesn’t make over the top, outrageous slap-stick comedies. His comedic skills are bit more subtle and have an appealingly realistic feel to them. This story is about what it was like to go into college when I was going into college. I could relate to some of their misadventures. I liked the meandering storyline and some of the offbeat characters.

Secrets Sponsor

1980 was an interesting time in America, and Linklater really captures the spirit of the times here. I also liked the way this movie dovetails with Dazed and Confused, his film about the last week of the school year for high school seniors. If you liked that movie, well, you’re bound to find a lot to enjoy here as well.

Technical

The picture quality is outstanding, with bold colors and great lighting. The sound was exemplary as well, especially with the 80’s soundtrack with some wonderful sounding music in surround. I wouldn’t mind getting this films soundtrack on cassette or 8-track!

Extras

Included is a DVD as well as the BD. Also featured are: More Stuff That’s Not in the Movie, Rickipedia, Baseball Players Can Dance, Skills Video and History 101: Stylin’ the 80s.

Jim Milton

Jim Milton has been interested in high fidelity since his college years in the late 70's. It was there that he first became interested in classical music. He has been part of choral music, both in opera and oratorio and is an avid collector of classical music from the Baroque through the Romantic periods. He enjoys an occasional night at Boston Symphony Hall or attending an organ concert at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, ME. Currently he is the director of Nuclear Medicine at the North Shore Medical Center, located just outside of Boston. He also serves as an adjunct professor for Salem State University where he teaches a course in nuclear instrumentation. During his leisure time, he enjoys listening to his music collection and an occasional movie with his wife of 30+ years. Living on the longest stretch of sandy beach north of Boston offers him plenty of opportunities to take a relaxing stroll or soak up some sun. "Remember, acquiring good A/V gear takes lots of time...but doesn't necessarily take lots of money."
