PSB Alpha iQ-Streaming Powered Speakers Preview

PSB is a company that has specialized in speakers for 50 years, with a very rich history. The PSB stands for Paul and Sue Barton, which was founded by Paul Barton, who is also the Chief Designer to this day. PSB Speakers has produced meticulously designed speakers, subwoofers, and headphones for the discerning ears of audiophiles and music lovers. PSB has been known for its innovation and technical advances in many aspects of speaker design over the past 50 years.

The PSB ALPHA iQ speakers we have for review are their current wireless bookshelf speakers. The term “bookshelf speaker” seems to be so outdated when a speaker like the PSB ALPHA iQ is being referred to. This is a speaker for those who want musicality, simplicity, with no wasted time turning on a preamp, waiting for the time to turn the amp on, then waiting 30 minutes until the music sounds like music. This is for those wanting a break from the earbuds while not giving up musicality or convenience. The PSB ALPHA iQ speakers are also for those who want instant, satisfying musical reproduction when they arrive home. This, combined with a catalog of thousands of musical tracks awaiting playing time, only improves the experience. A system that can be easily set up, offers instant musical access, and the BluOS Ecosystem, allowing custom, individual listening formats, is a great personal audio alternative. The BluOS system is an award-winning hi-res platform that places all your sources and playback in one elegant app. At $1,499.99, it is a “complete system” of a product reflective of the company’s thinking of the diverse types of people who love music, their unique and individual preferences for system structure, and performance mixed with décor integration.

This is the first powered wireless PSB monitor with wireless features sent to us from PSB. After unboxing, I was impressed with the “solid feel” and weight of the speakers. The overall build quality, aesthetics, back and top features of the speakers, and attention to detail were also very well executed. The addition of the MM phono input allows a journey into vinyl for those musically expanding beyond conventional streaming of digital information.
