Naim Mu-so and Mu-so QB (2nd generation) Wireless Music Systems Preview

It took 25 engineers over three years to come up with the Naim Mu-so speaker system.

Based out of Salisbury England, Naim has established itself as one of the go-to wireless/streaming speaker manufacturers that can be considered audiophile grade in both sound reproduction and quality of construction. They sent me the second-generation Mu-so and the smaller Mu-so QB to test drive for a few weeks and I am impressed with their sound and ease of use. They offer wireless connectivity with internet radio, USB, Tidal, Spotify, Qobuz, Bluetooth and both analog (3.5mm) and TOSLink connections. With a handy downloadable (free) app, you can control all inputs, audio settings, alarms and a sleep timer; as well as controlling any smart lights you might have. All inputs can be renamed, too. A remote is included with the larger Mu-so, but once I had the app installed, I never really had to use it because it covers all the bases when it comes to control.

The cloth covering of both units can be changed out with other colors to help match your decor. The Mu-so has dual tweeters, midrange and bass speakers with over 450 watts of amplification, combined with a new DSP chip that handles music files up to 24-bit/384 kHz. The sleek aluminum casing has a touch control knob that acts as volume and selector. It senses your hand and illuminates, waiting for your command. It reminds me of an Apple product in its simplicity and elegance.

Look for my upcoming review in time for the Christmas shopping season. I have already been telling Santa that I have been extra good this year!

Jim Milton

Jim Milton has been interested in high fidelity since his college years in the late 70's. It was there that he first became interested in classical music. He has been part of choral music, both in opera and oratorio and is an avid collector of classical music from the Baroque through the Romantic periods. He enjoys an occasional night at Boston Symphony Hall or attending an organ concert at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, ME. Currently he is the director of Nuclear Medicine at the North Shore Medical Center, located just outside of Boston. He also serves as an adjunct professor for Salem State University where he teaches a course in nuclear instrumentation. During his leisure time, he enjoys listening to his music collection and an occasional movie with his wife of 30+ years. Living on the longest stretch of sandy beach north of Boston offers him plenty of opportunities to take a relaxing stroll or soak up some sun. "Remember, acquiring good A/V gear takes lots of time...but doesn't necessarily take lots of money."
