Hitachi has purchased Fujitsu's intellectual property for plasma displays and has made a major commitment to plasma technology. Like most manufacturers, Hitachi was showing various 1080p displays.

The most interesting model Hitachi was showing was the P50H401, a $2499 50" plasma with a 1280x1080 resolution. While this is not the full resolution of 1080p, which is 1920x1080, this display looks to offer excellent value. The 1280x1080 resolution is 2/3 the number of pixels of 1080p, but 50% more pixels than 720p which is a significant improvement.

Hitachi is also the only company to manufacture a 55" plasma display, the P55H401.
