On the Bench The subwoofer has less than 10% THD+N at 100 dB output. Keep in mind that you will have two of these subwoofers if you buy a pair of Strata Minis. Three if you use one for the center (with a perforated projection screen), and five if you use them all the way around. This is plenty of bass.
THD+N from the mid/woofer was only 0.3% at 100 dB output.
IMD was acceptable from the mid/woofer.
The planar midrange had less than 1% THD+N at 1 kHz, which is great.
IMD seems to be in an acceptable range as well.
THD+N at 10 kHz and 100 dB was just over 1%.
IMD at 10 kHz and 11 kHz was acceptable.
Here is the room response, at 1 meter. It is very flat, and the subwoofer makes a big difference. I adjusted the controls until it was as flat as I could get it in the 80 Hz to 30 Hz region. The peak at 55 Hz is a room node. Depending on how far out from the wall you place the speakers, the controls would be at different settings. In any case, this is a marvelous room response.
The impedance is at a minimum at a little less than 7 ohms, with peaks near the crossover points. The electrical phase stays within + 450 to - 750.
Conclusions How many times have I said, "Well, Mark Schifter has done it again"? I can't remember. Well, Mark Schifter has done it again. The Onix Strata Minis would be an incredible bargain at twice their price, and I know some people have told Mark to double the MSRP. But, he won't do that. He wants to bring people in to high performance audio, not scare them away. However, I have to note that the price does go up in January, to $1,995/pair, as $1,595 is the pre-order price. Three hundred pairs have already been pre-sold, even without a review. So, I think a lot of people already know that Mark Schifter has done it again. These speakers are so good, they are joining my reference systems.
