Denon AVR-4806 7.1 A/V Receiver

Part VI

December, 2005

John E. Johnson, Jr.

Now to the graphs. The first four were taken using Dolby Digital test signals and the signal was measured at one of the pre-out jacks. I used a Toslink digital input jack assigned to VCD, and Stereo Direct mode.

Look at the low distortion and low noise floor using a 1 kHz test signal. The maximum voltage at the pre-out was an astounding 6.33 volts RMS. That is more like what you find with a dedicated preamplifier. The S/N ratio at maximum pre-out voltage, using 1 kHz, was 125 dB . . . again astonishing.

At 5 and 6 kHz input signals, IM peaks were very, very small.

At 10 kHz, THD+N was less than 0.15%.

Using 10 kHz and 11 kHz test signals, again, IM peaks were very low. The AVR-4806 has an excellent preamplifier section!
