Any fan of Parasound Audio gear knows all too well the “JC” moniker in their Halo line stands for John Curl. Before joining Parasound to work with founder Richard Schram, John Curl became legendary for his Vendetta Research SCP-2 phono preamplifier. About 200 were produced, all were hand-built.

Parasound Halo CD 1 Player

The Halo CD 1 is a flagship CD Player from the well regarded, San Francisco based, Parasound. CD Player? Surely I mean 'DAC with Transport'. Nope. CD player, put your CD in, music comes out. No, you mean it's part of a server system, the data is stored for later retrieval by a computer system. Well, only if you count the internal buffering and Intel ITX computer running Linux inside the CD 1. In implementation then the CD 1 is quite modern, it's a computer, dedicated to CD playback only. In practice, it's an old fashioned (and in this case, that's good) CD player.

Parasound Halo A 31 Three-Channel Power Amplifier

Parasound has been making their Halo line of products for quite a few years now, but they are not one to make updates for the sake of change. Their A21 and A51 amplifiers have been unchanged since they debuted and remain a mainstay. The A 31, reviewed here, is a three-channel (250 watts x 3) power amplifier.
