Lawrence, Kansas – April 30, 2019 – The Museum of Science Fiction in Washington DC is featuring MartinLogan’s futuristic hybrid electrostatic loudspeakers for three days during Escape Velocity 2019, which runs from May 24 to 26, 2019. Escape Velocity 2019, organized in partnership with NASA, is a futuristic world’s fair that promotes STEAM education within the context of science fiction using the fun of comic cons and fascination of science and engineering festivals. During the event, MartinLogan speakers are being used in the gallery area for panel discussions and presentations and also in the entry portal.

MartinLogan ElectroMotion ESL-X (Gallery Area)

The MartinLogan ElectroMotion ESL X ($1,999.998/each US retail) features a 40 x 8.6-inch Curvilinear Line Source (CLS) XStat™ electrostatic transducers with advanced microperf stator technology and dual 8-inch low-distortion fiber cone woofers. One of MartinLogan’s original breakthroughs, CLS™ (Curvilinear Line Source) technology, has been an essential ingredient of every electrostatic loudspeaker we’ve produced—and the ElectroMotion ESL X is no exception. Proprietary manufacturing methods enable the construction of electrostatic panels as cylindrical sections. Their gentle horizontal curvature solves the problem of obtaining good high-frequency dispersion from a large radiating surface without compromising overall sound quality or reliability.

MartinLogan is demonstrating the ElectroMotion ESL X with an STR Integrated Amplifier from Anthem Electronics.

MartinLogan Motion 4i (Entry Portal)

The MartinLogan Motion 4i ($249.99/each US retail) features an advanced-resolution 1 x 1.4-inch Folded Motion tweeter and two 4-inch fiber cone woofers. The signature Folded Motion tweeter utilizes an extremely low mass diaphragm that “squeeze” air, and require significantly less excursion than the typical 1-inch dome tweeter, which drastically minimizes distortion while providing a lightning fast response time. The increased surface area also provides a broad, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and carefully etched sound stage.

About the Museum of Science Fiction

The nonprofit Museum of Science Fiction will be the world’s first comprehensive science fiction museum, covering the history of the genre across the arts and providing a narrative on its relationship to the real world. The Museum will show how science fiction continually inspires individuals, influences cultures, and impacts societies. Also serving as an educational catalyst to expand interest in the science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) areas, the Museum uses tools such as mobile applications and wifi-enabled display objects to engage and entertain.

About Escape Velocity 2019

The Museum of Science Fiction and NASA are partnering to bring Escape Velocity 2019 to Washington, DC. The event is a futuristic world’s fair to promote informal STEAM educational activities within the context of science fiction using the fun of comic cons and fascination of science and engineering festivals. Escape Velocity 2019 seeks to make a measurable positive impact to boost informal learning on the more conceptually challenging academic areas. Escape Velocity’s mission is to attract young people to science, technology, engineering, art, and math by producing and presenting the most compelling, exciting, educational, and entertaining science festival in the United States using science fiction as its primary engine. Escape Velocity will achieve orbit on May 24-26, 2019 at the Marriott Gaylord Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC.
