MartinLogan Fresco On-Wall Planar Speakers

August 14, 2003

MartinLogan, the loudspeaker technology company, announces the introduction of the compact new Fresco on-wall/off-wall left-center-right-surround loudspeaker featuring a selection of installation options, room friendly aesthetics, ultimate crossover design, high-excursion, high-resolution bass drivers and ATF (advanced thin film) transducer technology.

Versatility in Application and Installation
Incorporating MartinLogan’s new ATF (advanced thin film) transducer technology, the versatile and attractive new Fresco loudspeaker is ideal for all sound reproduction applications from 2-channel to multi-channel music as well as home theater. Designed to match any MartinLogan product in both looks and performance, the Fresco functions as main, center or surround channel(s), either on wall or off wall in both horizontal and vertical orientations. A unique 'on wall/off wall' switch allows listeners to tailor Fresco's acoustic equalization to any of these installation options.

The Fresco comes standard with a low profile, single pivot wall bracket, allowing horizontal and vertical on-wall mountings alongside plasma screens or any other location throughout the listening environment. Optional installation solutions include a floor stand, center channel stand, shelf stand, and a universal multi-pivot on-wall bracket.

Versatility in Finish
Available in a décor-friendly selection of faceplate and grill cover options, Fresco’s matches any plasma screen and the complete MartinLogan product line. Easily removable, custom faceplates will also be available to integrate with contemporary, architectural, high-value interiors. In addition, Fresco’s high-density molded cabinet is paint-ready for any custom installation

Ultimate Crossover—Ultimate Clarity
Under the hood of the discrete Fresco lies a sophisticated, state-of-the-art Vojtko™ crossover, designed and manufactured with the same meticulous attention, care and precision as those found in MartinLogan’s ultimate loudspeaker products. Complete system engineering of Fresco’s high excursion, extremely low-mass bass drivers, in combination with a specifically tuned chamber and electronic filtering, result in superb levels of power handling and bass from this compact product.

MartinLogan’s New ATF™ (Advanced Thin Film) Transducers Provide Clarity, Detail and Resolution
In order to achieve the rigorous MartinLogan standards for detail, clarity and resolution, and yet permit a compact cabinet, high-resolution ATF transducers became the first building block for the new Fresco. The MartinLogan ATF transducer consists of a micro-thin, low mass diaphragm with an ultra-light, etched conductive aluminum surface suspended between two high field strength neodymium super magnet arrays. When an electrical current (music signal) passes through the etched aluminum on the diaphragm’s surface it is simultaneously pulled towards one of the neodymium arrays and pushed away from the opposing. When the direction of current is reversed the diaphragm is simultaneously pushed and pulled in the opposite direction, thus producing sound. This concept is called push-pull and is a major contributor to the linearity and sonic superiority of both ATF and electrostatic MartinLogan thin film transducers

ATF diaphragms are constructed of extremely low mass Dupont Kaladex® PEN (polyethylene naphthalate)—a material chemically similar to the low-mass PET (polyethelene terathylate) film used in MartinLogan's generation 2 electrostatic transducers, yet capable of handling the high thermal requirements needed for stable magnetic thin film operation. Full surface drive capabilities allow this durable, low mass diaphragm to remain discretely sized, yet achieve extremely low-distortion levels with superior resolution. To maximize installation options, ATF transducers are completely shielded to eliminate any deleterious effects on nearby equipment.
