With room for up to 32 terabytes of storage, it can accept the contents of 600 Blu-rays or 300 Ultra HD discs. You can also use it for your music collection. A high-end remote and a slick user interface make it easy to browse your media library. Support for Android 6.0 means you can still stream content from all your favorite providers like Netflix, Amazon, and thousands more.

While it may sound like a streaming box with storage, it’s far more the reverse; a high-end media server with streaming capability. This is no mere home theater PC. Zappiti has developed a superb user interface that makes browsing large media libraries a snap. You can use the included backlit remote or control the fun from a phone or tablet. Bluetooth 4.0 means you can wirelessly connect a keyboard and mouse too.

Output quality is the equal of any high-end player I’ve experienced. Zappiti has incorporated its own video processing solution that is equal to the best disc players. HDMI 2.0b means support for resolutions up to 4096×2160 at 60Hz with 10-bit color and HDR. My sample player is loaded with plenty of Ultra HD content and I intend to spend lots of time watching movies. A second HDMI output means I can enjoy lossless sound through a surround processor. Built-in Wi-Fi will handle the internet connection.

At just $995, Zappiti undercuts Kaleidescape by a significant margin. Even after adding in the maximum storage capacity, 32TB, the price is only a third as much as the Strato player which maxes out at 10TB. The Pro 4K HDR looks like a winner on its specs and value quotient alone. I look forward to putting it through its paces. Watch for my full review coming soon.
