I recently obtained for review, a Pro-Ject RPM 9 Carbon turntable (MSRP: $2,499) with an Evo tonearm, Sumiko Starling MC phono cartridge (MSRP: $1,899), and a Pro-Ject Tube Box DS2 phono preamplifier (MSRP: $799).

What a great package!

Everything set up easily, my LPs are all tracking even with the most dynamic music passages, and the Tube Box DS2 phono preamplifier is a perfect match for the turntable and cartridge. The DS2 phono preamp is the small chassis just to the right of the turntable in the photo. It uses two 12AX7 dual triodes.

I am eager to experience this fine turntable. It has a massive platter that runs totally silent and smooth. The tonearm has a nearly frictionless gimbal.

This is definitely a far cry from what I had as a teenager!
