It was a happy day when a pallet containing two large boxes arrived on my doorstep.

Paradigm Defiance X10 and V10 Subwoofers

Having reviewed the Paradigm Monitor SE speaker system earlier this Summer, I was now in possession of the newest subwoofers from their Defiance Series, which has six models ranging from entry level all the way up the ladder to their top shelf sub. The ones I’ll be reviewing are the X10 and the V10.

Paradigm Defiance X10 and V10 Subwoofers

Defiance X is powerful thanks to heavy-duty, internally-braced cabinets, and Paradigm’s exclusive Active Ridge Technology (ART™) for maximum driver-excursion. Power is coupled with precision control and very low distortion, especially once ARC room correction is applied. My favorite feature is the ability to fine-tune the sub to your room via an App that uses ARC (Anthem Room Correction) technology. The Defiance X subs come with 10, 12, or 15-inch cones while the V-series comes in 8, 10, and 12-inch sizes. All include ARC except the V8. An optional wireless module is offered for greater placement flexibility, too. The X10 came with a microphone that plugged into my iPhone 7 and allowed me to run ARC and control volume, phase, mode (movie or music), along with the ability to turn ARC on and off to compare the difference in sound quality.

In my initial listening, ARC is a game changer for simplicity of setup and dialing in deep bass from your favorite listening position. The ability to set up a sub and play with the controls from your phone while never leaving your seat is… priceless. Be sure to check out my upcoming review in the next few weeks.
