The Optoma CinemaX P1 Ultra Short Throw 4K Projector is a one-box entertainment component that can put a 120” image on a wall or screen from just inches away.

Its elegantly-styled chassis houses a 0.47” DLP chip with a laser phosphor light engine. Four speakers provide quality audio with tuning by NuForce. It’s a sleek solution for those who want a big-screen TV but don’t want to hang a heavy panel on the wall.

I’ve just received a P1 for review and managed to get it set up in just a few minutes. Placed beneath my Stewart Studiotek 130 projection screen, I can fill its 92-inch diagonal space with the P1 just a few inches away and just below. The image is super-sharp and bright, over 170 nits with the laser at full power.

The P1 is a single-chip DLP with Ultra HD resolution, HDR, and extended color. It also includes a built-in NuForce soundbar consisting of four speakers driven by 40 watts of total power. The sound is quite good with solid bass and plenty of distortion-free volume. A 20,000-hour laser phosphor light source ensures many years of maintenance-free operation. And it looks high-end too. The box is trim and neatly styled with a fabric grille in front.

A slick remote works via Bluetooth and features an on-screen mouse cursor that’s easy to maneuver. AndroidOS delivers a suite of apps from all popular streaming providers. I installed Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube a few minutes after connecting the projector to my Wi-Fi network.
