The NAD T 778 AV Surround Receiver is a flagship AVR that forms the heart of any premium home theater audio system.

I’ve received one for review and can’t wait to put it through its paces.

At 140 watts per channel into 8 ohms, the T 778 provides plenty of power for up to nine speaker channels. Dolby Atmos is supported in 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 configurations and pre-outs are provided for two additional channels making it 7.1.4 capable. It can drive any speaker load thanks to NAD’s tried and true hybrid digital amplifier technology. In my initial tests, it blasted Mahler symphonies for over an hour while barely rising above room temperature.

Though it handles optical disc formats with ease, its real strength lies in BluOS support. This streaming ecosystem gives the user access to a limitless array of online content. You can connect with providers like Tidal and Qobuz, or surf through a planet-load of internet radio stations. It’s all easily controlled from the BluOS app which resides on your phone or tablet.

Physically, the T 778 is smaller than you’d expect for a flagship AVR, but it packs plenty of I/O and includes NAD’s Modular Design Construction in the form of two card slots. When a new HDMI version comes along, just swap out the existing card. This receiver is effectively future proof.

Also included is Dirac Live room correction. With both frequency and phase correction, the user can tailor measurements to best suit a particular room. Up to three configurations can be saved for easy access. You can easily switch between them using the excellent remote or a front panel touchscreen with color display.

I’ll be listening to plenty of music, both streamed and from disc, as well as watching lots of movies before writing this review. The T 778 already sounds engaging so it shouldn’t be long before my article appears here. Check back soon!
