B&W Formation Flex Speakers

A few months ago, I reviewed the Bowers & Wilkins Formation Bar and Bass module. While I was very impressed with two-channel music sources through the Bar and Bass, the lack of dedicated surround modules was a real bummer. When I voiced these concerns to B&W, they told me to hold on a bit as they would be releasing a product that would solve my surround channel woes. A few months later, a pair of Formation Flex speakers arrived at my door. The Flexes are more than just surround speakers though. They can also function as either a single speaker broadcasting stereo sound or if you pick up a pair of them, as a left and right speaker in a stereo pair.

Initial Impressions

I’ll be looking at the Formation Flex speakers from two different perspectives. First, as dedicated surround sound speakers when paired with the Formation Bar and Bass module. Second, as a stand-alone pair of speakers for music sources. While I can’t say that the Flex speakers solved all my concerns over using the Formation Bar and Bass module in a home-theater setup, they have proven to be far more interesting for producing music on their own. Keep checking the Secrets site over the coming weeks for my full review.
