It’s January, which means I’m very excited to be heading to Las Vegas for several reasons. For one, it’s time for the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) where the worldwide community of audio / video / technology enthusiasts and media will be gathering to see the latest and greatest technological releases. And secondly, it’s a frozen tundra here in the Midwest, so I’ll be glad to get a much needed, short blast of warmth and vitamin C!

While I have been to countless amounts of trade shows and events in Las Vegas over the years, this will be my first visit to CES. I started writing for SECRETS just after CES 2017, and was introduced to the audio show circuit at AXPONA last spring. But CES is at an entirely different level, with a much broader range of products to be seen. Having followed the CES shows for many years now while I was an audio / video fanboy, and getting excited by the media coverage in publications like SECRETS, I’m really honored to be the one behind the camera and keyboard to bring show coverage to readers worldwide.

The SECRETS team this year will consist of myself, along with Co-Editor-in-Chief Chris Eberle and Managing Editor Cynthia Johnson-St Denis. If you happen to be in attendance and see us walking around, please be sure to say hello!

While Chris Eberle will be amongst the madness and masses in the main halls covering (mostly) video related products, I will be focusing on the high-end audio companies and products at the Venetian.

Please follow along as we update the readers of SECRETS on our travels throughout the halls of CES, and don’t forget to leave comments and / or share our reports accordingly.

CES 2018 – Here We Go
It’s January and all AV enthusiasts know what that means – the Consumer Electronics Show is about to happen in Las Vegas. Of course, we journalists have had little else to think about for weeks thanks to the withering barrage of emails from excited vendors and startups touting the latest connected pillow or virtual reality pencil eraser (really, just touch it to your temple and watch Avatar in 3D!).

Seriously though, I’ll be boarding a plane Monday afternoon for the five-hour flight from Orlando, then spending Tuesday and Wednesday at the Convention Center checking out the latest in consumer video. All the major and minor display manufacturers will be there showing their wares. Most new TV introductions are done at CES so I expect to see some amazing things from Samsung, Sony, Philips, Panasonic, LG, RCA, Hisense, and TCL. With Ultra HD and HDR now firmly established in the marketplace, I will undoubtedly see some terrific demos, hopefully shown on large panels with full-array backlights and VA technology!

Most projector companies introduce new models at CEDIA but Optoma has just started shipping a 4K DLP that I plan to check out next week. I’ll also make time for a demo of the latest room correction from Dirac. And I’m told there is something to see at Goldenear’s room at the Venetian. I’ll spend an afternoon there to visit them along with Lenbrook and other purveyors of fine audio.

It’s my first trip to Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, and I plan to make it a memorable one. Watch Secrets starting Tuesday evening for coverage from me and my colleague, Todd Cooperider who will be scouring the Venetian for the latest in quality audio. Viva Las Vegas!
