They think they’ve found a new home but soon, a town springs up nearby built by a television personality to promote her home renovation show. When Margaux discovers the Addams’ home, she starts a campaign of misinformation in hopes of driving them away so she can sell houses in her perfect utopia. A clash of attitudes ensues with hilarious results as the Addams’ kooky relatives arrive for Pugsley’s coming-of-age ceremony.

The Addams Family movie review

Set in animated form, this modern-day version of the classic TV show brings slapstick entertainment and a powerful message about today’s society. If you just want to enjoy the kooky gags the show is famous for, they are here aplenty. But there is plenty of art imitating life as well. Margaux Needler is a TV show host bent on creating her version of utopia filled with conforming citizens. I won’t go into detail but let’s just say there are plenty of skeletons in her closet. The story is told through the relationship between Margaux’s daughter, Parker, and the ever-macabre Wednesday. As the two girls get to know each other, a bridge is formed between the worlds that eventually prevents disaster. It’s a fun and entertaining film that has something for adults and kids alike. Though there are some intense moments, there is nothing that would be objectionable for young children. The Addams Family will definitely provide an enjoyable evening’s entertainment for the whole family.

Technical

It’s hard to find fault in any modern animated film. Though Pixar sets the bar a bit higher than other studios, the transfer looks stunning. Color is rich and vibrant with natural hues appropriate to the story. Contrast is broad and deep with bright highlights and deep blacks filled with fine shadow detail. Facial textures are enhanced by things like fine razor stubble and even flaky skin. Hair effects are smooth and detailed with no signs of breakup. Even at 1080p, this disc shines.

The Addams Family blu-ray review

The audio encode features a wide three-dimensional sound stage with lots of ambient effects in the surround channels and good use of the subwoofer. The mix is a bit polite, so you’ll want to turn up the volume to get the full effect. Dialog is clean, clear, and properly centered.
