Commentary

Though I did not enjoy this movie as much as the Lego Batman Movie, the action, sometimes rude behavior and general irreverent action on the screen was colorful, loud and often hilarious. The opening of the film actually has live action with Chan being the proprietor of an ancient antique shop.

The overall theme of the movie is not just “try harder till you succeed”, but more of a “work together with each other to succeed”. It strikes a nice chord while also highlighting the importance of a father and son relationship. As with all of the other Lego movies, the wisecracking jokes will keep the adults entertained as well as the kids. If you are a fan, you will want to add this one to your library.

Technical

Though the animation is done in 2K, these types of movies upscale to 4K very well. The HDR/WCG make the images really pop with color, especially the primary colors. You can see a lot of details, even in the shadows. Basically, this movie is a lot of eye-candy. The soundtrack is lively and engaging with plenty of surround action and deep, powerful bass.

Jim Milton

Jim Milton has been interested in high fidelity since his college years in the late 70's. It was there that he first became interested in classical music. He has been part of choral music, both in opera and oratorio and is an avid collector of classical music from the Baroque through the Romantic periods. He enjoys an occasional night at Boston Symphony Hall or attending an organ concert at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, ME. Currently he is the director of Nuclear Medicine at the North Shore Medical Center, located just outside of Boston. He also serves as an adjunct professor for Salem State University where he teaches a course in nuclear instrumentation. During his leisure time, he enjoys listening to his music collection and an occasional movie with his wife of 30+ years. Living on the longest stretch of sandy beach north of Boston offers him plenty of opportunities to take a relaxing stroll or soak up some sun. "Remember, acquiring good A/V gear takes lots of time...but doesn't necessarily take lots of money."
