First Impressions

Right out of the box, the carrying case for these really caught my eye. It is small, simple, and discrete. The earbuds fit comfortably in my ear without the need to change tips. Charging is simple, just put them in the case and plug them into a USB power supply. Don’t forget to remove the pink film before charging! They charged in about 10 minutes, and I was listening away. I tried to update the firmware in the app, but I kept getting the error, “the firmware cannot be installed,” so this review is based on the firmware that was shipped with them.

Once the hardware is installed, you’ll be spending most of your time in the Bluesound app. A major part of whole-house audio systems is the app, it controls everything from power and volume to what’s being played. Setup was easy, but not the best I’ve seen. To get a better understanding of the average user I had my wife try and set up the amp on the app on a fresh install. It went well until it didn’t show up on the Wi-Fi network on her phone and I had to step in to figure it out. Adding music services was very simple, only requiring us to sign in. It’s easy to create playlists and start listening; this part was all very well laid out and worked flawlessly. Since I only had the review units for a short time, I didn’t get to test long-term reliability. If you’ve had a Bluesound system for a while, please let me know your experience in the comments below.

Case, App, and Charging

The case has a nice magnetic pull when you put the earbuds in, keeping them secure. I wish it had some bright or flashy logo on it. It’s matte black and hides in the dark really well, almost so well that I lost it a few times. Charging was never a hassle; the Twig Pros charge fast and if you keep them at your desk or in the car you can just keep the case plugged in, so they always have plenty of juice.

The Oddict app is pretty cool, but I wish there were more depth to the EQ settings. They just don’t seem to do much. Your options are Warm, Hard, Soft, and Cold and you slide the pointer nearer to the sound you want. The battery levels can be found in the app which is very useful. There is even a Find-Me mode and Ring which helps you find a lost earbud. The app works well, I was never able to get the firmware update to work, but I still like its usefulness.

Sound

This is where it gets tricky, I absolutely love the Twig Pros for talking on the phone and listening to podcasts. However, listening to music is…. not great. Zoom and phone calls are fine, I had one instance where the left one didn’t want to turn on during an important meeting and I had to just use the right one. Not a huge deal, but after resetting them they seemed to work fine. I tested the mic with a few friends on phone calls and asked them how I sounded without them knowing if I was using my phone or the Twig Pros. The Twig Pros won this hands-down.

With music, however, things fall apart. They lack bass and the highs are quite tingy. I spent some time with the EQ settings, and they sounded better near the Soft setting, but only a little. They slightly redeem themselves with the active noise canceling, which is good, but not the best I have heard at this price range. My take is to use these for phone calls but skip the tunes.

Conclusion

All in all, the Oddict Twig Pro Earbuds are great for the price if you don’t plan to listen to much music. I do a lot of phone and Zoom calls and they are fantastic for hands-free talking. Definitely a cool pair of earbuds, at $150 they are an ok deal, but they would be even better at under $99 in my opinion. I give these 3 out of 5 stars, cool features, but room for improvement.
