Sabian 19″ HHX X-Plosion Crash Cymbal

Sabian's classifies their HHX series as "Modern Dark . . . drier, dirtier, funkier". The word "Dark" translates to lots of low frequency undertones, and I think, after having analyzed quite a few cymbals, "dirtier" means more midrange wash . . . more "SHHHHH" to the sound. One of the models is the HHX X-Plosion Crash, and that means it plays loud and is meant to be hit hard. The 19" version reviewed here delivers.

Monster Turbine High Performance Ear Buds

Monster, long time suppliers of speaker cables, interconnects and power conditioning products, has recently entered into the portable audio market. They now offer a full range of products from the Dr. Dre branded Beats headphones all the way up to the professional Turbine Copper Pro ear buds. I had the pleasure of checking out their middle-of-the-line offering, the Monster Turbine High Performance ear buds. (Monster calls them "In-Ear Speaker".)

Denon DVD-A1UDCI Universal Blu-ray Player

My wife often enjoyed making fun of how many optical disc players I had in my AV setup. When it was the most out of control, I had an HD-DVD player, a PS3 for Blu-ray movies, an Oppo Universal DVD player, and a Sony SACD changer for music. While DVD-A and SACD didn't catch on with lots of the public, some of us built up a collection of the titles that we want to be able to listen to, and we would like to avoid having an AV rack full of extra players like I do. Denon's new DVD-A1UDCI Universal Blu-ray player handles every format out there, including Blu-ray, SACD, and DVD-A, outputting the signals digitally through its HDMI port.

Samsung SP-A900B Single-Chip 1080p DLP Projector

What if a videophile were given total control over the design, production and distribution of a projector? You would expect a high degree of color accuracy, great optics, easy calibration for different screens and environments, no unnecessary features, consistent quality and of course a stunning image. Samsung has answered this question with the help of Joe Kane. The result of this collaboration has been a series of DLP projectors, the latest example being the SP-A900B.

Atlantic Technology Introduces Two In-Wall Surround Speakers, With/without THX Ultra Certification

NORWOOD, MA (5/5/08) -- Atlantic Technology has introduced a two dipole/bipole switchable surround speakers in its IWTS line (In Wall Theater System) of architectural speakers for home theater. Both the IWTS-30 SR and the IWTS-14 SR feature dual two-way driver arrays facing front and rear to fill the listening area with ambient sound for a remarkably convincing, lifelike theater soundfield. The IWTS-30 SR has earned THX Ultra certification, a testimony to its remarkable performance and high output capabilities. The IWTS 14 SR (which is not THX Certified) shares the capabilities and feature set of its sibling, but with slightly less extended bass output.
