Sonance 1, The First Residential In-Wall Loudspeaker, Inducted Into CEDIA HOF

San Clemente, CA—September 22, 2008—In 1982, when Sonance founders Scott Struthers and Geoff Spencer created the world’s first in-wall loudspeaker, the Sonance 1, they forever changed the relationship between audio and architecture. Their bold stroke launched architectural audio—an entirely new category for the consumer electronics industry.

In the 26 years since, Sonance has continued its leadership role within the consumer electronics industry; in 2002 Scott Struthers received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) for his innovations in the custom installation industry. Mr. Struthers is credited with inventing the in-wall speaker concept for residential use. Now Sonance celebrates the induction of the world’s first in-wall loudspeaker, the Sonance 1, into CEDIA’s Product Hall of Fame.

The Sonance 1 made history with its wooden baffle and decorative flange both designed for flawless in-wall installation. This innovative design broke the barrier between audio and architecture and launched a new category for speakers that today has become the largest in the multi-room audio market.

Scott Struthers, founder of Sonance said, “CEDIA is one of the most respected trade organizations in the world and we are proud and honored to be recognized for our achievements and contributions to the CE industry and for the design of our original Sonance 1 loudspeaker.”

Sonance was among eight respected companies representing a variety of categories, chosen to receive this prestigious honor. Inductees will be highlighted on the CEDIA website and all products will be displayed in a Product Showcase at the CEDIA EXPO 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Product Hall of Fame was developed to show the origins of the residential electronics industry and track the progression of product development and technology.
