Few people in the US had heard of LeEco until it bought Vizio earlier this year for $2 billion. I thought it might re-brand their TVs but as it happens, they have their own line of displays that are being sold in the US for the first time in 2016.

Thanks to my PR contacts at Vizio, I was able to get the 55-inch Super4 X55 Ultra HD television in for review. It’s a full-featured display with HDR10 support, HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 and an Android-based streaming interface. Most top-tier services are included and more can be downloaded from the Internet.

Two things strike me as I unpack the display: It features a lot of aluminum parts including the panel’s back, trim and stand legs. The high-end look is unmistakable. Second, it sells for a mere $900 online. $900? For a 55-inch Ultra HD TV with HDR? That’s nuts!

Initial viewing impressions are excellent and the X55 is already showing me out-of-box accuracy well beyond its price point. This promises to be a fun review and I can’t wait to hook up my Philips UHD Blu-ray player and watch some hi-res content!
