About to embark on the 8 hour drive from Boulder to Telluride, for many folks close to me, this is their indication that Labor Day is here.

The film lineup is still secret as of this writing, it should start drifting out on the web about a day before ‘The Show’ which always starts the Friday before Labor Day and runs through Labor Day evening. Even though the lineup is not yet announced, an educated guess at which films are likely to be shown can go a long way.

Director Alexander Payne (“Nebraska”, “The Descendants”, “Sideways”) is a Telluride favorite. His latest directorial effort is “Downsizing” and looks to have wrapped up production at just the right time m for this mountain festival. Matt Damon is the marquee name in the cast but it’s good to see Jason Sudeikis listed there as well, continuing his transformation to a dramatic actor. The first step in that transformation that I saw was a big one: “Collosal” – debuted at Sundance and which Gabe Lowe recently saw on Bluray. “Downsizing” in this case refers to excising the junk and extra stuff from one’s life. I wouldn’t be surprised if Matt Damon is the subject of a tribute at Telluride as well.

Anyway, it is all speculation until the films are announced. Telluride is unique in that respect and it does add to the fun. I like to see films while knowing as little about them as possible. I’ll see as many movies as I can and post full reviews within a couple of weeks.
