Synopsis

Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello and Michelangelo are back to battle bigger, badder villains, alongside April O’Neil and the hockey masked vigilante, Casey Jones. After Shredder escapes from prison, he joins forces with his two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop and Rocksteady. And if this was not enough, the alien super brainiac Krang is plotting with Shredder to take over the Earth. If the TMNT are going to save mankind, they will have to come out of the shadows.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows - Movie Review

Commentary

Story wise, this film corrects a lot of mistakes from the first one. By sticking closer to the script of the original comic book work, this film hits all of the right buttons for the fans. Besides a more sinister Shredder, the introduction of Krang, Rocksteady and Bebop makes this film much more enjoyable. The other factor making this film work is the focus on the TMNT as a band of brothers. We see much more of them and their personal interaction with each other in this movie. Just because they are brothers does not make them a team…and they will need teamwork to defeat Shredder and Krang. Not unlike the last Superman movie, our heroes are misunderstood by humans, but in the end, we learn to accept our differences. Add into this mix action and humor and you have a pretty fun 2 hours.

Technical

The 4K resolution is razor sharp, but the added element of HDR makes the action explode off of the screen. Colors are excellent, with a host of colors in purples and reds that I have never seen on a TV before. Explosions are brilliantly bright with bluish purple tints that look amazing! The soundtrack is super-active and you surround system will never sleep. Even though I do not have Atmos, the 5.1 surround sounded great. If you have Atmos…this soundtrack will be over the top, literally. Kowabunga, dude!
