On March 1 and 2, 2014, Secrets hosted a Salon Presentation as part of our 20th Anniversary Celebration of publishing. The presentation consisted of three rooms containing state-of-the-art equipment, both solid state and tube, and both two-channel and home theater. It was a resounding success, with attendees stating that they had never heard such fantastic sound, and were totally unaware that certain items even existed. The Secrets Editor, John Johnson, presented all of the equipment, with CD, SACD, DVD-A, as well as vinyl and Blu-ray movies in the home theater room. The attendees were people who don't attend audio shows, but who want to have good quality components and are unable to find local shops that can demonstrate the products. The success of the Salon Presentation indicates that this may be a way of bringing new members into our audiophile community. The manufacturers are more than willing to put in their products. Some of our readers around the world need only invite them to participate in your own presentation, and consumers will come.

As in previous years it became just a little more difficult to get tickets. But, I am less and less concerned about this since it forces us into more offbeat movies. I enjoyed all the movies we saw this year but in many cases that is simply because it was a film at Sundance. Some of them were surprisingly bad. I'll try to point those out in my reviews.

Following on my technical article"AVR - Audio Video Receiver - Build Quality: Part I", here, in Part II, I dig a bit deeper into the performance of a single-chip Large Scale Integrated (LSI) analog AVR chip and introduce better solutions employing Small Scale Integrated (SSI) analog chips. Herein, I refer only to Pre/Pros, but everything discussed applies equally to AVRs. Pre/Pros tend to use analog SSI chips, while most AVRs use the LSI solution (see the chart in Part I of this article for the make and model numbers of the AVRs and Pre/Pros using the LSI chip). I carryover the term, AVR LSI, from the first part of this article and refer to AVR when I comment on products with power amplifiers.

Well, the 10th annual Rocky Mountain Audiofest has come to a close. The show has outgrown its original venue. That meant that this year there would be some rooms set up at the nearby Hyatt Regency. I once again wore out my shoe leather in an attempt to squeeze as much coverage as possible into a three day agenda. We hope that you checked some of the real-time coverage in the CAVE, including some video. Here is all of our coverage.

CES 2014 has come and gone, or in process of being gone with the breakdown of the many exhibits…..the attendance made even the Las Vegas Convention Center seem almost too small! The weather on the East Coast and Midwest really played havoc with many, we understand that many hotel rooms ended up empty, but sure did not seem like it! It is always a madhouse, but also good to catch up with so many friends.

CES 2014 is underway in Las Vegas! Covering the show this year is our veteran team: Robert Kozel, Chris Heinonen, Piero Gabucci and Stephen Hornbrook! And of course Cynthia Johnson, Managing Editor and John Johnson, Editor-in-Chief are on the ground as well. This year is no different than past years, with respect to the multiple venues to cover, but it does seem that the off-site meetings, in hotels other than the main venue,s are increasing, so getting to all of the great new products in audio and video is getting to be a race. And this year is full of travel challenges for those travelling from the East and Midwest.... Coverage will begin tomorrow, here, but do check out the real-time postings on Google+ all week. Primary audio and video coverage will be from the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Venetian Hotel. Also planning some coverage of THE Show, later this week.
